INSTALLATION OF MAYOR
NEW PLYMOUTH COUNCIL MEETS. * APPOINTMENT OF COMMITTEES. A special meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council was held last night for the purpose of installing the Mayor-elect (Mr. E. R. C. Gilmour), the election of a deputy-Mayor, and the appointment of committees and representatives of the council on other bodies. Mr.'Gilmour was installed by the retiring Mayor (Mr. H. V. S. Griffiths), who then vacated the chair. Cr. F. J. Hill was reappointed deputy-Mayor.. The following were present: Councillors F. Amoore, P. E. Stainton, T. P. Anderson, J. W. Darby, J. Brown, F. J. Hill, F. S. Grayling and S. J. Smith.
The following committees were appointed:— Finance Committee: The Mayor, Crs. Anderson and Grayling. ’ Works: Crs. Brown (chairman), Hill and Smith.
Electric light and tramways: Crs. Stainton (chairman), Darby and Amoore. Baths: Crs. Stainton and Anderson. Carnegie Institute: Council nominees— Cr. Brown, Mr. P. ,C. Garnham, Mr. C. G. Bottrill and Miss McLean.
Town planning: The Mayor, Crs. Hill and Anderson; ' the ■ Commissioner of Crown Lands, Messrs W. H. Skinner, F. Carrington, W. N. Stephenson, L. C. Sladden, W. M. M. Lysons, J. Caradus, B. C. A. McCabe.
Fire Board representatives: Cra. Brown and Amoore.
North Egmont National Park: Messrs H. V. S. Griffiths, W. H. Moyes (appointed in February last to hold office until February next). Taranaki Local Bodies’ Association: The Mayor and the chairman of the works committee. Pukekura Park: Crs. Amoore and Stainton, Messrs R, C. Hughes, C. E. Bellringer, J. McLeod, W. F. Short, H. Dempsey, F. Parker, V. C. Davies, and the Mayor. Tukapo Sportsgrotmd: Cr. Brown (council’s representative) and Messrs W. C. Weston, T. H. Bates, G. E. Dinnis, C. G. Bottrill, P. E. Stainton, W. H. Moyes, G.-H. Saunders. < . Western Park Board: Cr. Darby, council representative. Kawaroa Park Society representative: Cr. Brown.
Ngamotu Domain council’s representative: Cr. Stainton.
Ngamotu Seaside Improvement Committee representative: Cr. Stainton.
East End Reserve Committee representative; Cr. Smith.
Fort .Niger Reserve: Messrs J. C. Nicholson, F. N. Whitcombe, G. Fetch. W. P. Griffith.
Fitzroy Public Hall Committee representatives: Cr. -Grayling and Mr. James Kibby. Rotokare Domain representative: Cr. Hill.
Huatoki Domain Board representative: Cr. Amoore.
Citizens’ Band representatives: Cr. Amoore and Mr. V. Garth.,
Band recitals sub-committee: Cm. Amoore and Stainton. Taranaki Automobile Association representative: Cr. Darby. High Schools’ Board representative: Mr, G. H. Dolby .(appointed May, 1932, holds office until May 31, 1934).
Sub-committee for widening existing streets, fixation of building lines, etc.: The Mayor, Cr. Brown, chairman of the works committee, Commissioner of Crown Lands, and Mr. H. V. S. Griffiths. 1 Committee re Avery Trust Lands representative: Cr. Smith.
Oakura Beach Reserve (two nominated by the council): Mr. G. H. Bell and Mr. R. Davies (subject to consent). .Aviation Committee: Crs. Stainton, Brown and Grayling. Waiwakaiho Recreation Reserve representative: Cr. Grayling. Beautifying Committee: The Mayor, members of works committee, and Messrs F. Parker, T. C. List and J. McLeod. Paritutu Recreation Reserve representatives: Crs. Brown, Stainton and Anderson.
Wallace Place Playground Committee: Cr. F. J. Hill, Messrs J. Lobb, J. S. S. Medley and J. P. Casey. New Plymouth Aero Club: Cr. Stainton.
The appointment of the council’s representatives on the North Taranaki Unemployment Committee was deferred pending the decision of the Unemployment Board upon the number who may be appointed.
