IMPROVEMENT IN MARKET
BUTTER AND CHEESE PRICES
SEVERAL SALES RECORDED AT 9J<L
EQUAL TO NEARLY 80s FOR BUTTER
Prices for both butter and cheese have been rising steadily recently, and the tone of the markets has been reported to be much healthier than it was. An indication of improvement is given by the fact that several sales of considerable quantities of butter at 9 l-8d f.o.b. at New Zealand ports have taken place in North Taranaki in the last few days. This price is equivalent, with the present exchange premium of £24 per cent., to about 79s 6d per cwt. on the London market, several shillings above present quotations. A cable received yesterday by Mr. H. M. Thomson, New Zealand representative of the Anglo-Continental Produce Company, Ltd., stated that the butter market was steady, quotations being from 74s to 755. White cheese was selling at from 43s to 44s and coloured 50s. All the prices represent an advance over those received last week.
