NEW PLYMOUTH ELECTIONS
FACILITIES FOR RACEGOERS. SPECIAL RACE TRAIN DELAYED. „ Owing to the special race train from New Plymouth to Hawera to-day having been scheduled to leave New Plymouth at 8.50 a.m., and to arrive back at 7.22 p.m., it was found that as all polling booths opened at 9 and closed at 7 all sportsmen going to the races by train would be unable to record their votes at the municipal or local body elections. Yesterday morning upon this position being made clear, the borough authorities, the sporting bodies concerned and the Railway Department were immediately approached and as a result of the ensuing negotiations the special train has been delayed to leave New Plymouth at nine minutes past nine and a special extra staff will be on duty at the booth at Hooker’s Building, Egmont Street, to enable citizens to vote before catching the train.
As the booth cannot be opened till 9 a.m., it is intended to have the numbers found for voters before 9, so that there will be no delay on entering the booth. .. ~
