CLEARING BUSH LAND

UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF SCHEME. INGLEWOOD SETTLERS’ SUPPORT. The suggestion that unemployed relief camps should be established in the mountain radius line locality in the Inglewood county for the purpose of stumping and thoroughly clearing and bringing into immediate production a large area of land which under present conditions would not be brought into production for many years owing to lack of .finance is finding favour with settlers in the district. The suggestion was that as compensation for the work a certain percentage of land should be taken over by the Government for settling unemployed relief workers, the scheme thus serving a threefold purpose of finding productive work for the unemployed, making the area more productive and settling in the country relief workers from the towns.

At yesterday’s meeting of the Inglewood County Council the chairman, Cr. R. Stuart, stated that with the engineer he had visited the locality ?nd had outlined the scheme to the settlers. Subsequently 14 or 15 settlers controlling about 4000 acres had signified their approval of signing the proposal. He had forwarded that proposal to the Minister of Employment and had written to various other members of the Cabinet asking their support
