TARANAKI LAND BOARD
BUSINESS OF MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Land Board was held at New Plymouth, from Wednesday to Friday, there being present Messrs. W. D. Armit (chairman), C. J. Ryan, H. A. Foreman, S. Blake and N. R. Cleland. Prior to commencing the business, the chairman offered his felicitations to Messrs. S. Blake and H. A. Foreman on their re-appointment as members of the board for a further term of two years. Mr. Blake’s first appointment was made in 1921 and Mr. Foreman’s in 1927, since when the farming knowledge and experience of the appointees had been of material assistance in enabling the board to form its recommendations and decisions. Mr. Ryan and Mr. Cleland endorsed the chairman’s remarks, to which Mr. Blake and Mr. Foreman suitably responded. Seven sections were offered for selection by ballot, for which six applications were received. Mr. G. C. Wilson was the successful applicant for sub. 1 of section 8, and part section 10, block X, Tangitu survey district, and Mr. G. Naughton for section 7, block XVI, Ohura survey district. Eight further applications for land were also considered, of which two were recommended and two deferred for receipt of further , information. The following grazing tenancies were approved: Section 1, block VII, Aria survey district, G. Macßae; section 1, block IX, Pouatau survey district, H. Anderson; section 17, block XVI, Ohura survey district, H. Steffert; and sections 5,6, 7, 8 and 19, block XVI, Pouatu survey district, E. F. Oliver. In considering the disposal of section 20, block VII, Omona survey district, sub 2 of section 12, block XI, Omona survey district, and secttion 16, block 111, Upper Waitara survey district, the board decided to communicate with the adjoining land holders with a view to their taking over these unoccupied areas.
An application for permission to sell timber on section 11, block XVI, Ohura survey district, was approved subject to certain conditions. The Whangamomona County Council submitted proposals for the expenditure of accrued fifths to which the board agreed. In two instances an extension of the term of expiring licenses was recommended and renewals of expiring leases over the following sections were offered to the present lessees: Sections 209, 316, 543, 572 and part 573, town of New Plymouth. Nine applications for consent to transfer were dealt with. One was recommended, three deferred and the following approved: Part section 8, .Oakura town belt, secion 6, Block XI, Cape survey district, sections 14 and 15, block XI, Mimi survey district, section 83, block XI, Opunake survey district, and part sections 484 and 485, town of New Plymouth. Several areas of Crown land will also shortly be offered for re-selec-tion as under: By public tender tenancies of sections 7, 8 and 14, block X, and section 8, block 11, town of Matiere, part sub. 9 and 10, Opunake railway reserve, and section 1, block XVI, Omona
survey district; by public auction at tenancy of part section 9, town of Manutahi; for selection by ballot, section 44, block IX, Cape survey district, section 5, block XIV, Huiroa survey district, section 6, block X, Ohura survey district and section 14, block VII, Pouatau survey district.
