FRIENDLY BOWLING GAMES. On the Kaponga Bowling Club’s grounds on Saturday afternoon a friendly match was played with two rinks which resulted in a win for Kaponga by 57 to 42. The scores were (Kaponga players mentioned first): V. Tait, W. Carrington, N. Gardner, J. H. Tyack (s) 34 v. Laing, Brennan, Looney, Smith (s) 20. Champtaloup, Hammersley, W. Anderson, Dawson (s) 23 v. Peat, Marcroft, Hickey, Stephenson (s) 22. The Kaponga Club have accepted friendly challenges from Tariki, which will be played on Thursday; also from Hawera, to be played on Saturday, and from Avon, to be played on Saturday week. , The Kaponga Methodist harvest festival services were held at the Methodist Church on Sunday, the preacher being the Rev. J. R. Nelson. The anthems “All Thy Works Praise Thee” and “Praise the Lord O Jerusalem,” were rendered by the choir, the organist being Mrs. R. G. Cook and Conductor W. Nelson. The harvest social and sale was held in the Parish Hall on Monday evening, when the gifts were disposed of, the sale being conducted by C. W. N. Rowe. Solos were rendered during the evening by Messrs. N. C. Davies and W. Nelson, accompaniments being played by Mrs. R. G. Cook. An enjoyable supper was provided by the ladies’ committee. The Kaponga Rifle Club further stage of the Harrison Memorial, Clip competition on Saturday afternoon. Although conditions were very fair, the scores, which were as follow, were somewhat on the low side: —

Mr. F. W. Fallows, accompanied by Mrs. Fallows and their two children, have returned from an extended holiday visit to North Auckland. Mr. C. J. Stewart has resumed ’ ity with the firm of Messrs. Newton -ring after his annual vacation. The Kaponga. school Rugby football team expects to compete in the South Taranaki Schools’ Rugby Football Association’s competition this season, but much depends upon transport arrangements. During the past season the team was conveyed to . the playing fields of nearby schools by parents and supporters, and it is hoped that such assistance will again be forthcoming. Mrs. A. Barley has returned from Wei-, lington. The weekly allocation of funds under No/ 5 scheme for tfiis week provided work on the following basis: Single men, 1 1-8 days for 8s 6d; married men up to two children, 2 days for £1; married men with three or more children, 2J days for £1 ss.
