CLIMBERS’ LATE RETURN

MINOR SCARES ON MOUNTAIN. Two minor scares occurred on Mount Egmont between Stratford and Dawson Falls houses last evening, both satisfactorily cleared up within two hours. A boy was reported to have no. returned to the Stratford house from the summit and three men failed to by dark to the two ladies they had waiting in a car on the plateau road, At 7.30 the Stratford house caretaker telephoned Dawson Falls ‘to say a boy’s bicycle was on the plateau,, but there wa? no sign of the boy. Mr, W» W« Guthrie, Stratford, who had been en’ gaged in wireless tests at. the summit remembered having seen a boy alone there at 4 o’clock. Driving mist had coto© down shortly afterwards. The boy not having been reported from Stratford 8 p.m., Messrs. H. Murray, Eltham. 551“ Brian Murphy, Dawson Falls, started from Dawson Falls toward the Stratford house to see if the boy was on th© track. They were accompanied by three ntojX who had missed their way to Stratford plateau and called at Dawson Falls for direction. Shortly after their departure a telephone message from the Stratford house said the boy had come down safely but had reported two women sitting desolate in a motor-car ,on the plateau road waiting for three men whom they had expected hours before. Mr. Murphy was able to announce that the three men were on their way. Mr. Murphy then took a lantern down a clearing near the house to signal the men who had gone out
