NEW ZEALAND’S ASSETS

“MORE TO SELL THAN PRODUCE.” VALUE OF TOURIST ATTRACTIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. i Hastings, Last Night. Mr. M. S. Spence, chairman of the Reconstruction Committee, speaking at the opening of the new Masonic Hotel in Napier to-day, said that New Zealand had more to sell than produce. There were New Zealand’s own attractions, the Sounds, deer-stalking, the thermal regions, trout-fishing and alpine climbing. All were quite unique, and should be commercialised. The world should be told about'them. Here was a wonderful, untapped revenue which the Government-had not fully appreciated. There was a distinct tourist drift to the Pacific, and with depreciated currency now was the time to encourage tourists. The new Masonic cost £44,000, and replaces the building totally destroyed by the earthquake and fire two years ago.
