TRAIN TIME-TABLE FIXED

NEW PLYMOUTH—AUCKLAND TRI-WEEKLY SERVICE EXPECTED. CONNECTION WITH NIGHT LIMITED. THROUGH SLEEPING CARRIAGES. A timetable for the operation of train services between New. Plymouth and Auckland, via the Stratford-Main Trunk railway has, it is understood, been finally decided upon. No official announcement has yet been made by the Railways Board, but it can be stated from a reliable sources that a tri-weekly service will be run. Express trains, it is .understood, will leave New Plymouth at 6.10 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for Taumarunui. There a connection will be made with the night limited express from Wellington, which reaches Auckland at 6.38 a.m. Taranaki passengers will therefore reach Auckland on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. From Auckland the service will be made on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings by the night limited for Wellington, which leaves at 7.0 p.m. and reaches Taumarunui about midnight. There a connection will be made with a- train which will reach New Plymouth •at 6.38 a.m. One or more sleeping carnages, it is understood, will run right through from New Plymouth to Auckland and vice versa, so that there will be no need for passengers to change trains. Whether the ordinary coaches will be run through or whether passengers will, have to change has not yet been decided. Fares will be as was at first announced several months ago. The single second, class fare will be £1 5s and the first class £1 IGs Bd. Return fares will be double, but there will be a special week-end return rate of £3 8s 6d first class and £2 5s 9d second class. The Stratford-Main Trunk line, it is believed, will be opened on April 1. If so it will be easy for Taranaki residents to spent Easter at Auckland by leaving New Plymouth on Friday night and returning on Monday morning, giving two clear days at Auckland.
