ALTERATION IN ITINERARY

rain affects ohura roads CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PARTY. LEAVING NEW PLYMOUTH TO-DAY. A delegation from the Taranaki Cahmber of Commerce will leave New Plymouth this morning on a visit to the Ohura and Taumarunui districts, a party of about 20 making the trip. The party, comprises Messrs A. *• Sandford (president), G. Fraser, S. E. Shaw, V. Duff, R. C. Hughes,, T.C. List, A. R. Standish, J. McLeod, I. M. Kto > J. L. Mander, F. S. Johns and V, Duff (secretary), representing the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce, Mr. C. E. Bellringer (chairman of the New Plymouth Harbour Board), Messrs J. Brown (chairman), V. Elliot (secretary) and T. Nixon of the Taranaki Producers’ Company, Messrs H. C. Couch (district traffic manager, Wanganui), and V. R. J. Stanley (railway business agent, Wanganui). . The itinerary arranged was to maKe the trip to Ohura via Okau Road, the party reaching Ohura in time for lunch and visiting the Tikorima and Tatu districts in the afternoon. The party was to be entertained at Ohura to-night, was to visit Niho Niho and Otangiwai to-morrow, being the guests of the Matiere Settlers’ Association to lunch, and proceed thence via Okahukura to Taumarunui for the night, returning home via Aria on Wednesday. That itinerary, however, will have to be altered owing to the wet weather that has prevailed. Mr. H. Seerup, the Ohura county engineer, telephoned yesterday evening that the Okau route was impassable, the rain having made conditions so bad that cars could not negotiate that route. It will be remembered that there is a very big slip on the road 15 miles from Ohura and it was at this point that the delegation, was first to be met by members of the Ohura Chamber of Commerce and Ohura County Council. Mr. Seerup also notified that the Tangarakau Gorge could be negotiated only by cars with chains, and then with difficulty and he advised travelling via the coastal route and branching in at the eight-mile peg to Taumarunui and thence going to Ohura. This detour will considerably increase the mileage.
