Mr. F. J. Easther, Greymouth, is spending a holiday at New Plymouth.

Mr. Alexander Brodie, M.Sc., 8.E., has qualified in the final paper, Section C, in the examinations for A.M.lnst' C.E.

Mr. J. B. Mac Ewan, Wellington, is a visitor to New Plymouth and is staying at the Criterion Hotel.

Canon C. S. Woodward, M.A., M.C., who recently refused the bishopric of Christchurch, has been appointed Bishop of Bristol, states a London cable. The Rev. Clarence Eaton and the Rev. R. B. Gosnell will leave New Plymouth for Auckland this week to attend the annual conference of the Methodist Church of New Zealand.

Mr. Donald Fraser died at his residence, “Ratanui,” Carrington Road, New Plymouth, on Friday, at the age of 70 years. Mr. Fraser was in indifferent health for some time.

Mr. P. McQuaid, Los Angeles, U.S.A., one of the party of American business men at present visiting the Dominion, was at New Plymouth' during the weekend and stayed at the Criterion’ Hotel. Colonel N. Anglin on Saturday announced his retirement as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of .Canada, the retirement to become effective on February 28, states an Ottawa cable.

T'he death of Sir Daniel -Morris, aged 84, formerly Imperial Commissioner of Agriculture in the West Indies, is reported in a British wireless message,. Sir Daniel devoted his life to the furthering of botanical and agricultural developments in the colonial Empire.

Flying-Officer H. S. Weston and PilotOfficer S. Green, New Plymouth, will leave this morning for Christchurch, where they are to attend the annual refresher course of the No. 2 , (Wellington) Bombing Squadron at the Sockbum aerodrome.

Mr. Justice Ostler, who is to preside over the Supreme Court session that opens at New Plymouth this morning, arrived on Saturday and is staying at Marsland View. He is accompanied by his associate, Mr. Graham Crossley., The death is reported from Greymouth of Mother Mary Teresa O’Connor, aged 67, late superior at Greymouth and formerly at Christchurch, of the Sisters of Mercy. She was bom in Tipperary and joined the order in New Zealand in 1889. She took a leading part educationally, also in the erecting of the large convent in Greymouth which was recently completed, and in the extension of schools in that district.

The death of Mr. Colin Robertson, J.P., at the age of 82, was reported in a Press Association message, from Invercargill on Saturday. Mr. Robertson; who was a farmer at Waikaia, was bom in Perthshire in 1850 and arrived at Port Chalmers in 1867. He was among the earliest pioneers of Southland and his public services included the chairmanship of school committees and the licensing committee, and membership of the Southland County Council since 1896.
