MINE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
GRAMOPHONE RECORDS SUCCEED.
MINISTRY CONSIDERS ADOPTION.
By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. London, Jan. 29.
The manager of a South Wales coal mine, after hearing a wireless broadcast an S.O.S. message, was convinced that warnings were more effective through the ear than the eyes, as printed notices were read once and then overlooked. He had gramophone records made and, wheg the miners begin duty, they are received with “Hello, manager calling. Safety first! Search your pockets for matches! See safety lamps are in good order, etc.” Minor accidents have already been reduced and the Ministry of Mines is considering the adoption of the method throughout the country.
