WAITARA NEWS
GENERAL AND PERSONAL. The number of Waitara men on unempoyment relief work totals 32, of whom 23 were formerly freezing works employees. The men are employed levelling and clearing roads and reserves in the borough. The allotment of £37 is £5 less than last week’s. The o.v. Kapui arrived from Mokau on Saturday night with a cargo of seven tops of coal and 37 bales of wool. The s.s. Mohurangi arrived from Mokau on Sunday might with a cargo of 45 tons of coal and six bales of wool. At a meeting of the regatta committee on Friday night a letter from the secretary of the New Zealand Rowing Association approved of February 18 as the date for the annual regatta. It was decided that should the attendance permit an extra race for outboard boats would be arranged. Mr. R. Butcher and family left Waitara yesterday for Palmerston North, where Mr. Butcher is to take up a position. Mr. Butcher was a keen member of •the Clifton Rowing Club, and an officer cf the Druids’ Lodge.
