INQUEST ON CHRISTCHURCH GIRL TRAM MANAGER’S EXPLANATION. By Telegraph.—Frees Association.. Christchurch, Jap. 26. The manager of the Tramway Board has replied to the coroner’s comment on the refusal of a tramway employee to make a statement to the- police concerning an accident. “There has evidently been some misunderstanding in the matter as a • result of the motorman being away on account of sickness and because the Tramways Board solicitor was on holiday/’ he said. “It has been the practice of the board to supply the names and addresses of a witness to the police, as was done in this case, and it was a complete surprise to hear that the police had not secured a copy of the motorman’s statement to the board, which was available.” " ’ .
