(By Wire—Special to News.) Auckland, Last Night.

Three favourites and two second favourites were successful at the concluding day of the Ellerslie meeting to-day, and the results were more favourable to investors than on the . previous days, although Jaeldy Karo paid double figures' whpn he won the first race. Azalea was favourite for the Goodwood Handicap and was unlucky to be narrowly beaten by Jaeldy Karo; Azalea, after being slow away, was last but one early and then ran round the field to be in front at the home turn. She was headed only when her rider stopped riding her with the whip momentarily about 50 yards from the post and did ■better than the winner when the stick was used again right on the post. Gay Idea finished strongly on the outside to get third, but the pacemakers, Whakapara and L’Allegro, both retired in the WEATHERWISE AGAIN.

Impasto, not quite as well fancied as Fracas and Weatherwise, attempted to win the Sylvia Handicap from end to end and just failed, being headed in the last couple of strides by Weatherwise, who was always handy and came home very solidly on the outside. Fracas finished on strongly from a long way back, coming through near the fence. It was a great tussle over the last furlong between the first and second horses, who finished fairly wide out, and Weatherwise with 101 b. the better of the vzeights just pulled through. Deputy Ruler ran a creditable fourth but Epigram did not do quite as well as on the previous day, although he was no oy means disgraced. THREE IN SUCCESSION. For the second year in succession Great Star, third fancy to Jaloux and Sunny Sky, won the Grandstand Handicap. Great Star followed King’s Archer, Cricket Bat and Sunny Sky, who were the leaders practically from the barrier rise, into the straight and came home strongly to win narrowly from Sunny Sky and Jaloux, with Cricket Bat fourth. Great Star deserved his victory but Jaloux did not have the best of passages and had to come fairly wide out to make his run in the straight. Sunny Sky and Cricket Bat both made fine showings, being handy all the way and fighting on well at the finish. Red Sun showed up prominently just after rounding the home turn but failed, to go on with it, which was not surprising considering that he began his run a long way from home. PRINCE OF ORANGE WINS. Backers had no hesitation in making

Prince of Orange an odds-on favourite for the Auckland Hurdles, and he acted right up to expectations in winning easily, flying his fences in great style. He jumped to the front at the first fence and led all the way.. Imperial Prince attempted to go with him five furlongs from home, but he outjumped them all by lengths at the third to last fence, and eventually increased his lead to ten lengths. Prince of Orange recovered quickly from his attack of colic, arid when he did well over-night it was decided to run him again. He has had four starts over hurdles for as many wins and is undoubtedly good. STAKES TO DIATOMOUS. In spite of the fact that he drew the outside of the field of six Diatomous was a solid favourite for the Royal Stakes, and he made no mistake about winning. It took him less than a furlong to get to the front from Princess Doreen and Red Manfred, and he turned into the straight about three lengths clear. It looked as if he would win by lengtns at the distance, but his rider, eased him slightly near the post and ne stopped very quickly to have only a small winning margin. Midian finished on strongly on the outside to get second, and Guarantee also ran on to take third place. Red Manfred tired in the last half-furlong and Princess Doreen retired quickly in the last furlong- She found the task of giving the colts weight too difficult, and when she tired in her attempt to chase Diatomous, who has brilliant speed, Voitre did not knock her about unnecessarily when she was beaen. GOLD TRAIL DECISIVELY. investors were right on the mark in the Clifford Plate when the favourites, Gold Trail and Antique, finished first and second. La -Modeme ted for about three furlongs from Pillow Fight and Silver Ring, when Gold Trail moved up and had a short turn in the lead. Then Silver Ring went to the front at the six furlongs post, and shortly afterwards Antique made a fast move into second position. Silver Ring and Antique led into the straight from La Modeme, Gold Trail and Pillow Fight, and in a great race home Gold Trail finished best to ; win well from Antique, with Concentrate finishing on on the outside a good : third, and Silver Ring a close fourth. Gold Trail scored decisively, right at the end, but Antique would have taken more beating if he had not been asked to make his run so soon. Silver Ring ran easily his best race at the meeting and hung on well after being taken to the front rather early.

LORDLY KNIGHT RUNS SMARTLY.

Lordly Knight, fifth fancy in a field of five, scored'an easy victory in the Bowen Handicap, for which Cadland and Greek Gold were main fancies. Lordly Knight reached the front quickly and came away in the straight, giving the others no chance. Greek Gold and Chromadyne were always closest to the winner and the former finished the better of the two. The others finished some lengths back. Cadland’s fourth was moderate. The winner ran good races at the top of the weights in hack class on the previous days and is a very smart horse and likely to achieve more success. MASTER BRIERLY AGAIN.

Aga Khan and Master Brierly were favourites in a good betting race in the Grey Handicap, and filled the dividend places in reverse order. Master Brierly was about the middle of the field approaching the home turn and then put in a fine run on the outside to take the honours from Aga Khan, who also finished well after being just behind the pacemakers, Woodfull and Sammy, to the home turn. Moonfleet, also well placed throughout, made a run that gave him the lead after passing the distance, but he could not maintain it and weakened back to fifth behind Psychologist, who came from a good way back on the rails. Grand Review became badly placed early and was never in the picture, being last at the half-mile’
