VIOLENT GALE IN BRITAIN
ABERDEEN TRAWLER SINKS THE CREW OF NINE ALL LOST HEAVY DAMAGE IN IRELAND. WIND OVER 50 MILES AN HOUR. British Wireless. Rugby, Jan. 2. The Aberdeen trawler Venetia was lost With all nine hands near Stonehaven today in a fierce southerly gale, which was particularly severe on t'-e east coast of Scotland. A violent storm swept over Ireland, western England and Scotland during the week-end. In Valentia (Ireland) the force of the wind rose to over 90 miles per hour in gusts, in one of which a speed of 96 miles an hour was attained. Great damage was done to property in southern Ireland, and . heavy rains caused rivers to overflow their banks. Sea walls were damaged in various parts. Sections of railway lines were destroyed in some places.
