PURANGI DISTRICT NEWS
SUCCESS OF SCHOOL CONCERT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A very enjoyable entertainment was presented by the Purangi school children on Friday at the breaking-up concert.' Through the entire programme the performers proved how excellently they had been trained by the teacher, IVL - . Don. The musical ability of the pupils was proved in the rending of several songs. The singing of a Maori song ■by Fergus, David and Bennett Bertrand yas warmly applauded. Two recitations given by Doris Mathews and Leslie Mathews were also well received. A clever display -of dancing steps and drill well deserved the appreciation of the audience. A two-act play, “Molly’s Dream, was an item which received much praise. The dainty costumes of those taking part making this a pretty sight. The part of the king was taken by Fergus Bertrand and that of the fairy queen by Betty Butters. Four fairies were Peggy Butters, Patricia Webb, Alicia Fletcher and Leslie Mathews. Doris Mathews was Molly, and Aurora Bertrand made a charming little announcer. The programme concluded with the singing of “God of Nations.”
The chairman of the school committee, Mr. Bertrand, presented each child with' a prize and Betty Butters with her proficiency certificate. Special prizes for neatness were gained by Betty Butters and Fergus Bertrand. A bag of sweets was also given each child. Supper and dancing followed. Music for the dance was provided by Mrs. J. S. Fletcher and Misses S. Mounsey and U. Webb. Mr. Mathews was M.C. and Mr. J. S. Fletcher was doorkeeper.
