ST. ANDREW’S CHORAL SERVICES.

LARGE CONGREGATIONS ATTEND.

Fully choral were the • services at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Stratford, on Sunday, children from the Sunday, school to. the number of 80 with.an orchesti'a of - seven instruments taking the singing at the morning services. Under the leadership of the -choirmaster, Mr. P. T. Aitken, they gave a delightful hour of hymns and Christmas carols, the congregation joining in only the first and last hymns. A sermon in keeping with the occasion was delivered by the minister, the Rev. J.- Map Gregor. . /

After the evening .service, a programme of anthems, carols and solos was given by a choir of 29, assisted by. Mr. Rogers’, orchestra,, of seyen ,ip?fruments; with Mrs. G. , Dick at; the organ. The church was crowded, a number being unable to gain admission. The-pro-gramme was: “And the Glory,” “O Come all ye Faithful,” ' “God. is- a Spirit, “Gloria in Excels” “Hallelujah Chorus. Solos were, given, by Mrs. W. Davis (“Star of Bethlehem’’), Mrs. S. Robinson (“Holy City”), Mr. Mclsaac (“Nazareth’), Mr. Sextus (“Open the Gates of the Temple”). Mrs. Bryce, Miss Hamilton, Messrs. D. Bain and P. T. Aitken sang “Holy Night.” The orchestra played two overtures. The programme is to be repeated at the ■ hospital to-morrow. • GENERAL., ITEMS. Comment on the expeditious manner in which the , Mayor had conducted, the council mertings during the year. a nd had extended every courtesy to the councillors was made by the deputyMayor, Cr. N. B. Fletcher, at the meeting of the Stratford Borough Council last night. Cr. R. F. Harkness, speaking on similar ■lines, mentioned the. council’s indebtedness to the Mayoress for her social work and activity in public inatters. The Mayor entertained the councillors and the Press at supper after the meeting. .

Oh behalf of the Methodist Bible classes Mr. A. H. Gaze asked the Stratford Borough Council last night for permission to: carol in the borough on Christinas Day from 5 a,m. to 8 a.ip. Collections, he said, would be taken only from church members and adherents.
