FAILURE OF RESCUE EFFORT. COLLAPSE WHILE DIVING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hamilton, Dec. 19. A farm hand, Herbert Vaililley, aged 19, was drowned in Kimihia Lake, two miles from Huntley, after a rescue attempt by his 16-year-old companion, James Rye, had failed. Vaililley was diving from a boat when ho collapsed. He struggled violently with Rye, who was forced to release him when he was in an exhausted condition.
