FIRE IN AN AEROPLANE

SUNSHINE THROUGH GOGGLES.

BLAZE QUICKLY- EXTINGUISHED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Dec. 19Just after midday yesterday the White Star aeroplane No. 2 just escaped destruction by fire while standing at the Taieri aerodrome. Fortunately a member of the staff noticed smoke coming from the pilot’s cockpit and found that the pilot’s helmet and cushion were on fire. He quickly extinguished the blaze. It is considered that the sun’s rays, focussed by the goggles left in the cockpit, were the cause of the fire.
