N.S.W. HOMESTEADS ISOLATED. BURNING SLEEPERS STOP TRAIN. By Telegraph—Press Assn.— Copyright. Sydney, Dec. 14. Fires destroyed 30,000 acres of grassland in the Riverina district. A serious outbreak near Oaklands swept 17i000 acres, destroyed large' numbers of sheep, razed fencing and cut off homesteads before it was subdued by 200 fire-fighters. Spreading to the railway lifto, the fire ignited the sleepers and forced a train from Urana to Oaklands to turn back. Smaller outbreaks occurred in other centres, sheep and .cattle perishing.
