While attempting to take off at 4 o’clock this morning Captain .Hans Bertram's aeroplane, which was too heavily loaded, failed to rise and ran into a ditch at the end of the field; and crashed. The landing gear and propellor were smashed, but Bertram and Co-PilOt Allen Were uninjured.; ■ Bertram, the German airman Who left Melbourne on Friday on 4 flight to England, reached'Bima from Darwin and made the hop to . Sourabaya (Java), where he landed at 6.30 p.m. local time. He left Bima at? 2.30 p.m., and had a fine trip. After leaving Bima the copilot Allen detected a stowaway, : who Was immediately arrested bn arrival at Sourabaya. Bertram stated, that the flight hitherto- had 'been hampered . only by strong headwinds." The stowaway is X believed to be the 20-year-old Jack Dobson, who was reported missing from an unemployed camp after midnight on Sunday, says a Darwin message. No watchman was guarding the plane.

WAS- DUE AT DUALA ON MONDAY. Rec. 11.56 p.m. ' London, Dec. 13. Twenty-two hours have passed without news of Mrs. J. A. Mollison, who is flying from Cape Town to London. Mrs. Mollison was last reported flying strongly over Loanda en route to Dual’s, where she was due yesterday.
