HAWKE’S BAY CRICKET TOUR
IMPROVEMENT IN BATTING. MATCH AGAINST WELLINGTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Hawke’s Bay touring cricket team redeemed their reputation to-day in the match against Wellington by scoring 297 for five wickets in the. second innings and then applying the closure. In the first innings they had made 122. F. Finlayson (captain), who come? from Adelaide, where he was coached by “Patsy” Hendren, scored 113. He was at the wickets for about three hours and hit 18 fours. Mat O’Brien scored an even century in 145 minutes, hitting oiie six and 12 fours. Browne (29) and Mahony (25) also batted soundly. The Wellington bowling was punished. Wellington in their second innings scored 49 for one wicket and the match was drawn. They had made 253 in the first innings.
The Hawke’s Bay team left for the south to-night and will play Otago at Dunedin on Friday and Saturday.
