Waituna Hurdles, kept close to his field, all .the way. He followed Red Bank and Manuiri into the straight and went on to win with something in hand by two lengths. Manuiri was always well placed, but his weight told over the last furlong. Red Bank was always one of the leaders and hung on well Kimbo did best among the others. BEAU GALLANTE WINS WELL. Beau Gallante, a fine-looking Top Gallant four-year-old, was sent out a good second choice for the Aorangi Trial, and Roy Reed, hopping him out well, always had the race in safe keeping. Beau Gallante is a hack above the average. Tiger Gain was sixth at the turn but came With a rattle to take second from Double Red, who had been prominent all the way. The favourite, Boon, had every chance but faded out quickly in the straight. All Supreme and Senegal showed pace. RACE FOR THE CUP. Tigerism was first on to the course proper in the Cup and never relinquished the lead. La Modeme and Arrow Lad were beside him until the straight entrance, when he went on to win well by a length from High Falutin’ and Chopin, both of whom came from a long way back. Tigerism led past the stand from La Modeme, Tahoma, Spearful and Arrow Lad. Going down the back Tigerism, La Modeme and Arrow Lad were on terms, with Tahoma, Spearful and Gay Court as their nearest attendants. There was little change at the straight entrance, when Tigerism soon took charge, and though High Falutin* and Chopin challenged he held his own and won well. The favourite Grand Jury had all the worst of the start, and when he made a move forward at the half-mile had to cover a lot of ground. He should do a lot better to-morrow. La Modeme failed to see the distance out. Chopin’s effort was a good one as he was last three furlongs from home. DEFEAT OF LADY QUEX.' Lady Quex, Souchong and Midinette were all well backed in the Stakes. Souchong was the first away from Lady Quex and Midinette, but the latter soon ran into second place, and at the far turn. Souchong was bowling along in front of Midinette, with Lady Quex and

Right Bower following. The order was unchanged at the straight entrance, and in the run home Midinette, hard ridden, just got up in time to win by a head. Right Bower was a length and a half away, just in front of Lady Quest. Eady Quex 'jumped out well but appeared to become imbalanced and had to be steadied. However she appeared to be doing it well enough at the turn “Ut failed to display any dash in the run home. JOIE DE VAL WELL RIDDEN, Beautifully handled by Roy Reed, Joie de Vai won the Kowhai Hack after a great struggle with Arikitea. She was well back on the rails in the early stages but had moved into a good-position at the turn. Arikitea was first out but was steadied and was in fifth place going down the back. He reached the front about a furlong from home but just failed to hold off the winner. Blacksmith arid Lady Spy were always well placed and Chock Say ran a good race. Aga Khan was last most of the way, and though he made up some ground in the run home he was never dangerous. Cape Fair fell just before entering the straight and brought down Grand Lahu. ORAPAI’S FINE PERFORMANCE. Orapai won the Flying like a real racehorse. He did pot begin as well as usual, and when they settled down Royal Routine, Pomp and Aston were in front of Consent and Orapai, with Royal Bengal well back. After they had gone three furlongs Orapai rceived a bad bump and lost three or four lengths. Aston, .Pomp and Consent were first into the straight, but then Ellis brought Orapai along and soon had the race in safe keeping, winning comfortably by a length from Royal Bengal, who came fast at the finish. Consent was a good third, and then came Pomp, All Humbug and Sir Pombal. Royal Bengal was unlucky at the barrier, but Orapai won really well. VICTORY FOR FARMER. Good Hunting and Gold Gleam were the first out in the Fitzroy Hack Handicap from Haulbowline, Farmer and Merry Way. Gold Gleam led into the straight from Farmer, Haulbowline and Good Hunting. In the run to the judge Farmer went on to win by a length from Good Hunting, with Acrelict third, followed by Aiguille, Gold Gleam and Merry Way. Merry Way went a really good race and looked like filling a place when 100 yards from home, but did not get a good passage. GANPAT’S SURPRISE. The final event provided a great finish, Ganpat just beating Fiji, with La Poupee and Juggle right up. Dick Whittington led most of the way but faded put. Awaken was most unlucky. She struck trouble down the back, but even then would have filled a place but, for being squeezed against the rails in the last 50 yards.
