INCREASE IN BANK DEPOSITS
AUSTRALIAN ADVANCES DECLINE.
AID TO STATES REVERSES RATIO.

The Commonwealth Bank’s deposits in the cheque-paying accounts increased by £7,153,000 to £306,889,000 in the year ended September 30. Fixed deposits were £7,071,000 higher at £218,278,000. Advances decreased by £17,879,000 to £257,589,000, the ratio to total deposits falling from 91 to 85.94 per cent. Owing, however, to the financial accommodations afforded various Governments, advances and investments together totalled £346,563,000 to September 30, the ratio to deposits being 112.93 per cent.
