A South African, George Kerr, Durban, has established, a parachute jump record of 17,300 feet. He stated after the jump: ‘ I began losing strength at 17,000 feet and I let go without warning the pilot and fell hundreds of feet before pulling the rip cord. “I swung violently and the cold turned to warmth. I smoked cigarettes and chewed biscuits to counteract a feeling of sickness. I drifted 10 miles and was 20 minutes in descending,” he said.
