PLUNKET "BABY DAY”
FINAL RESULTS OF APPEAL. NEARLY £350 COLLECTED. The final settling of Baby Day accounts following the drive held at New Plymouth on Friday show that the funds of the New Plymouth branch of the Plunket Society will benefit to the extent of £347. There were still a few small amounts to come, said Mrs. W. C. Weston, president of the branch, last night, and she characterised the result as an excellent one.
The appeal made to the school children for eggs also resulted in a record number being supplied. No fewer than 290 dozen were taken, as against 240 dozen last year. The eggs were all sold at lid. per dozen by a special stall under the charge of Mrs. J. A. Valentine. Details of the collection of eggs from the various schools are: Moturoa 15 dozen and 4, West End 15 dozen and 8 and jam, Westown 28> dozen and 2 and 2d., Convent (Sacret Heart) 5 dozen and 10, Convent (St. Joseph’s) 12 dozen, and 5, Cdnvent (Fitzrdy) 5 dozen arid 1, Fitzroy 27 dozen and 8 and 2s. 7d., Central 36 dozen and 9 and 5d., Central Infants 13 dozen and 10, Vogeltown 3 dozen, Welboum 3| dozen and 3s. 6Jd., Boys’ High School 2 dozen and 8 and 6s. lid., Girls’ High School 8 dozen and 8 and Bs., Mrs. Stafford’s School 4 dozen, Tikorangi 11 dozen, Okato 5 dozen and 2, Ahititi 6 dozen and 3, Mount Messenger 41 dozen, Koru 9 dozen, Hillsborough 4 dozen and 2, Lower Mangorei 4 dozen and lemons, Frankley Road 4 dozen, Oakura 21 dozen, Egmont Village 5 dozen and 3, Tarurutangi 61 dozen, Bell Block 141 dozen, Tariki 5 dozen and 11, Waiongona 4 dozen and 1, Lepperton 6 dozen and 9, Puniho 51 dozen and Is., Hurford Road 3 dozen, Omata 4 dozen and 3, Motunui 4 dozen, Tataraimaka 6 dozen and Is. 6d., unknown 3 dozen, Mrs. Loveridge 1 dozen. The proceeds from the cake stall eclipsed all previous efforts. The takings of the various sections of the appeal were:
Cake stalls (including guessing and proceeds from old clothes sale and bridge), £5O Bs. 10d.; produce (including proceeds from dance, bridge and half result of old clothes sale), £39 17s. 2d.; mothers’ stall, £32 17s. (not complete); egg stall, £l3 16s. Id.; sweets stall, £8 Is.; Victoria League flower stall (including play-reading takings), £8; nurses’ collection at Plunket rooms, £1 13s. 6d.; mannequin play-reading and lecture, £36 35.; balance of competitions, £2O 18s. The county collections were £23 16s. 7d., giving a total of £236 os. 4d.
