BRITAIN NOT ASKING PAYMENT. BUDGET ESCAPES SERIOUS UPSET. PRIME MINISTER GRATIFIED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night Although the United States did not grant a renewal of the Hoover moratorium and called upon Britain do pay a war debt instalment of £28,000,000 on Deoeniber 15, New Zealand would not be called upon to pay its share of the debt, stated the Prime Minister, the . Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, in an interview today. ’Mr. Forbes recalled that .he announced in his Budget speech that Britain had agreed to suspend for another year all payments due on the funded war debt and certain other debts due to the British Government. This meant a relief to the Dominion this year of £825,000, in addition to which a saving of £47,000 would accrue to the State Advances office. Mr. Forbes said this concession meant a great deal to the Dominion,' for the budgetary situation would have been badly upset had the Dominion been, called upon to' find this amount. The revenue was shrinking to-day and the 1 relief to the Dominion was a very real one.
