Gentlemen match Players, who made 194 in the first innings, in the second made 370 (Worthington 129; Allom four for 74). Gentlemen, who made 277 in the first innings, in the second made 240 (Hone 56; Freeman six for 123). Players wmn by 47 runs. M.C.C. lost three wickets for 60 in the match against Yorkshire, which was drawn after rain had delayed play. The outstanding county championship result was the defea t o£ Sussex by Somerset on the first innings. Somerset in the first innings made 303 , (Ingle 107, Willard 83) and in the second 160 (Tate five for 42). Sussex in the first innings made 256 (J. Parks 83, H. Parkes S 3) and in the second lost nine for 204.
