TARIKI NEWS

(From Our Own Correspondent). There was a very large gathering of friends and supporters at the dance and euchre party given by the committee of the mountain candidate (Miss Mollie Dombroski) in the queen carnival and held in the Rugby. Road factory by permission of the directors : and Mr. and Mrs. S. Walker. Dance music was played by Miss I. Loveridge and Mr. J. Harris, “extras” being played by several lady friends. Songs were contributed by visitors from Waitara and were greatly appreciated. Euchre was keenly contested. ’The prizes were gained by Mrs. W. Ward (Rugby Road) 1, Mrs. Reeves (John’s Road) consolation; Mr. Ackland (Rugby Road) 1, Master Bannett (John Road) consolation. During the evening a mock wedding was celebrated and it caused much amusement. Those taking part were: Minister (Mr. H. Gush), bride (Mr. S. Walker), bridegroom (Mrs. Byrns), first bridesmaid (Mr. J. Douglas), second bridesmaid (Mr. C. Douglas), best man (Mrs. H. McCullum), groomsman (Mrs. Readen), flower girls (Mr. Byrns and Mr. B. Dombroskih mother of bride (Mrs. H. Gush), father of bride (Mrs. S. Walker), maid (Mrs. R. Davis). The dresses of the performers caused much amusement, more especially that of the bride’s father, the impersonation being splendid. The bride was gowned in beautiful curtain net, the veil being arranged with posies. She wore a string of pearls (cotton reels), the gift of the bridegroom, and her bouquet was a sprig o’ flax. After the event the presents were displayed by the maid and the various telegrams were read, which caused much laughter. The bridesmaids’ bouquets were also admired being of cauliflowers, and the flower girls’ (dainty cabbages). The party then adjourned to the dance room, where dancing was continued until the eaily hours of the morning. The Waitara senior hockey team met Tariki at Tariki on Thursday. A very even contest finished in a drawn game, 3-8,11. Tariki goals were scored by L.

Loveridge and A. Mahon. Owing misunderstanding only . two Tanki seniors. were available, the balance 01 the team being made up from the juniors, who had just come off. the field from playing the Waitara juniors, haying defeated the visitors by five, goals to nil. Goals were scored by L. Loveridge (3), J. and L. Harris. . -I . The Tariki juniors showed great improvement, the forwards playing in perfect understanding, whilst the halves and backs supported them splendidlyThe goals by Loveridge were particularly good ones All were shot front the left of the circle. The goalie, J. Wilson, made several good saves for his . team. Mr. C. Power, Stratford, referee)!. The Tariki basketball girls travelled • to Stratford and were again victorious by 19 goals to 3. ' . y A very heavy snow storm was witnessed by early risers yesterday,-it being the heaviest in the district for some years.The second weekly euchre, party will take place in the Tariki hall to-night. Good prizes are offered, with a good ag-. gregale prize at the end of the series in aid of the town candidate.
