NEW PLYMOUTH BURGLARY
ENTRY FORCED TO DWELLING £lB CASH TAKEN BY THE THIEVES FAMILY AWAY DURING EVENING. Ransacking the dwelling and escaping with cash amounting to £lB or £l9, burglars entered the house of Mr. H. W. V. Plumb, at the corner of Vivian and Mt. Edgecombe Streets, New Plymouth, early on Saturday night. This is the second time that Mr. Plumb’s house has been entered this year. A neighbour heard the sound of breaking glass between 8 and 9 o’clock but paid little heed to it. The family had left the house for the evening at about 7 o’clock. AU the doors and windows were locked and Mr. Plumb s bedroom door was locked. Returning from the pictures at 10.30, one of the sons discovered the burglary and notified his parents and the police. The burglars broke a panel of glass m the front door so that they could turn the latch and open the door. Then the bedroom door was prised open, the lock being smashed. The burglars opened the back door so that if necessary they could make a swift escape. Every room in the house was ransacked and the contents of drawers and boxes were strewn over the floor. From a cashbox in Mr. Plumb’s room the burglars took between £lB and £l9 cash, a number of private papers and a wallet. Both the boys’ rooms had had attention, and even a medicine chest was rifled. The . burglars overlooked two purses—one containing £1 and the other 7s 6d—and a sum of 7s 6d in one of the boys’ rooms. The previous burglary of Mr. Plumb’s house took place in February. The burglars then could not unlock the bedroom door and the only articles missing were clothing belonging to the boys.
