The football championship was fought out between the Kaimata and Norfolk Road teams, winners in the Eastern and Western Divisions respectively. As in the case -of the basketball neither of the division leaders had met with a reverse, and speculation was rife as to which team would win. The teams were: Kaimata: D. Jones (capt.), J. Burkett, P. Klenner, L. Salisbury, M. Hm-lihy, J. Herliliy, E. Peters and J. Bennett, Norfolk Road: S. ■ Dombroski (capt.), J. Dombroski, B. Walker, R. Huzziff, B. Wickstead, F. Ryan, L. Davis and E. Cossey. ; Both teams were keyed up and some very smart and fast play was seen. From a line-out in Kaimata territory,, soon after the kick-off, S. Dombroski secured, and with' a fine run all but reached the line, before being hauled down. From the ruck he again secured and dived over for a fine try, .which was not converted. Stung into action the Kaimata forwards carried the ball down-field, and from a scrum near the Norfolk line Kaimata hooked the ball, for M. Hevlihy to cut round the scrum, beat two men and score. Bennett failed to convert., Fast. up and down play followed and half-time came with no addition to the scores, which were 3 all. After halftime Kaimata infused more dash into their play, the forwards getting in among the Norfolk backs and keeping play in Norfolk territory. From open play J. Herlihy sheared and with a great; burst of speed ran round behind the posts. Jones failed to convert; For offside play Kaimata were awarded a free kick and J. Bennett added three points.. Kaimata 9, Norfolk 3. J. Herlihy secured again and ran round to score in the center. Bennett failed, with the kick. The final scores were Kaimata 12, Norfolk Road 3. Cossey (Norfolk Road), Paterson, Goppefth, Zimmerman, Ciye, Peters (Kaimiro), O’Byrn'e, Dryden; Salisbury (Egmont Village); .emergencies, Brown (Norfolk), Trueman (Kaimiro). In a very interesting game Eastern proved too good for Western, winning by 17 to nil. Scorers for. Eastern were A. Martin, J. Herlihy (2), J. Bennett, J. Corbett.and D. Jones (converted a try). The Eastern backs were much too fast for their opponents and their forwards kept them well supplied with the ball. The selectors, Messrs. I. V.
