An exciting incident in the career of Mr. Lloyd George was recalled in the Supremo Court at Auckland when Detec-tive-Sergeant P. J. Doyle was giving evidence in a charge of taking part in a riot. Referring to his previous experience of rioting, Mr. Doyle said he had been present at the Lloyd George riot in Birmingham and was on© of those who marched out of the hall with Mr. Lloyd George, who was dressed in police uniform. “I believe he did not measure up to th© polio© standard of height,” remarked the Crown Prosecutor. “No, and he was noticed by th© crowd,” said Mr. Doyle. It lias been observed by th© officials of the Railway Department that numbers of people who arrive at Auckland early in the morning by th© express from th© south do not seem to be aware of th© “creature comforts” available at the big station. An advertisement in this issue gives a reminder that th© modern provision for th© public includes bath rooms, hairdressing saloon, refreshment room, fruit shop and bookstall, which ar© controlled by the Railway Refreshment Branch. Th© department feels that if these facilities were more generally known to the travelling public they would be availed of to a much greater extent. A clearing sale on behalf of Messrs. Aroa Bros., Auroa, will be held by Newton King, Ltd., on Wednesday. The catalogue comprises a good assortment of implements and farm sundries.
The Melbourne Ltd. announce th© .last two weeks of their clearing sale before closing down. More drastic price reductions have been made for the purpose of clearing all stocks and winding up the Company. This sale is of great importance to thousands who know its genuine nature and the dependable quality of the goods offered. Many of the quantities are small, so an early call is necessary.*
