WORK OF LIFE-SAVERS
KING SHOWS APPRECIATION. 500 LIVES RESCUED EACH YEAR. Appreciation of the work of lifecaving societies during 1931 in spreading knowledge of how to save people from drownjng was expressed by the King in a message forwarded on Majesty’s behalf to the Royal Life Saving Society, London. A copy of H ie message was read at the Wellington head centre of the society at its apnual meeting last week. In a letter to the president of the Royal Society, Lord Desborough, the controller of the privy purse . office at Buckingham Palace, Sir- . F-rjedehick Ponsonby, said he had laid before 'the King the report of the Royal - Life Saving Society for 1931, » and Hi* Majesty was much gratified to • learn that in spite' of the present financial restrictions never in the history of-the society had so much enthusiasm .been shown or so much voluntary .work given ungrudgingly.
