WINTER SHOW CONCLUDES
FALL OF £4B IN DOOR TAKINGSThe Taranaki Metropolitan Agricultural Society’s 23rd winter show at NewPlymouth concluded last night. A rearrangement of the ground plan and the introduction of new features, including a cabaret, made the show one of the best yet held so far as public attractions were concerned. Nevertheless, although favoured by fine weather for each of the four days, the aggregate takings at the door over the period were £4B less than last year. Mr. A. H. Cockayne, assistant Director-General of Agriculture, visited the show yesterday afternoon and gave an address on the small holding scheme for the relief of unemployment. Additions to the prize list are:— Domestic science: Pupils of form II (six short pastry tarts): Betty Budget(Eginont Village school) 1, Nancy Poynter (Westown) 2, Valerie Smith (Westown) 3. For pupils of Girls’ High School: Six sausage rolls: Gladys Bayly (N.P. High School) 1. These classes were judged by Mrs. A. P. Lister, Frank; Jeigh Park. ADDITIONAL PRIZE AAV ARDS.
