HAWERA ITEMS

Mrs. Harpur, Marton, is the guest of Mrs. T. H. McWilliams.

Mias Jean Blair is visiting friends at Wanganui and Waverley.

Misses Mary and Anne Bright returned from their term Jjolidays on Tuesday.

Mrs. McLean, Nelson, is staying with Mrs. Janson.

Mrs. Stott entertained a few friends at tea on Wednesday afternoon.

Mrs. W. G. Strange entertained a number of friends at cards on Tuesday evening.

Mrs. Linn, New Plymouth, was the guest of her daughter, Mrs. A. Galloway, Normanby, during the week.

Mrs. H. W. Glentworth, who returned home last week, was re-admitted to the Hawera hospital on Tuesday.

Mr. and Mrs. A. Rawlinson, who have been staying with Mrs. S. Stewart, Normanby, have returned by car to their home at Taneatua.

Mr. and Mrs. T. Jones, Alton, who have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. W- Bennett at Normanby, have left for their new home.

Mrs. G. Galloway and her little daughter are expected to return to Normanby to-day.

Mrs. McPhail, Rotorua, who has been the guest of Mrs. B. Gane, Normanby, left on Tuesday on a visit to Eltham.

Mr. and Mrs. Thrush leave Normanby early next week on a holiday visit to Palmerston North.

Mrs. McKenzie was hostess at tea on Wednesday afternoon, when Mesdames Walter Syme, H. W. Swinburn, G. Meyrick, C- Pratt, N. F. Stead and Miss Ethel Murdoch were her guests.

Tigritanas and luculia and a bright fire made a cheery setting for Mrs. Woodward’s afternoon tea in Mrs. Harpur’s honour on Tuesday, the hostess wearing a smart mode in cherry georgette. Those present were Mrs. Harpur (Marton), and Mesdames W. J. Bright, McLean (Wellington), W. Fendall, W. O’Callaghan, T. H. McWilliams and P. Cox.

Miss Eileen Cook, Pleasant Point, South Canterbury, who has been staying with Mrs. Bachelor, left during the week for Hastings, where she will spend a week or two before returning south.

On Thursday afternoon Mrs. M. Dowling entertained a few friends at tea, receiving her guests in a smart black frock trimmed with, white. Those present were Mesdames Evans, Alec. Murdoch, Park, Grindrod, Adamson, Kirkby, J. N. Henry, W. G. Strange and J. C. Smith.

Mrs. Channing Tonks was hostess at tea last Saturday afternoon, receiving her guests in a floral afternoon frock in navy tonings. Among those entertained were Mrs. Harpur, Mrs. T. H. McWilliams, Mrs. L. J. Bull, Mrs. Welsh, Mrs. Parrington, Mrs. Woodward, Mrs. Shaw (New Plymouth), Mrs. W. F. Buist, Mrs. Hugh McWilliams, Mrs. J. Hawken and Mrs. J. G. Elliot.

On Monday Mrs. T. H. McWilliams was hostess at tea in honour of her house guest, Mrs. Harpur, the hostess wearing a pretty model frock in cherry tones. The guest of honour wore navy crepe-de-chine relieved with vest, collar and cuffs of a light beige colour. A large bowl of stylosa and luculia comprised the decorations. Among those present were Mrs. W. J. Bright, Mrs. McLean (Wellington), Mrs. H. R. Kemp, Mrs. Woodward, Mrs. L. J. Bull, Mrs. Stott, Mrs. W- F. Buist and Miss Evelyn Buist.

Mrs. Leslie J. Bull entertained a few friends at tea on Thursday afternoon, wearing a smart frock of blue georgette. The guest of honour was Mrs. Harpur, who wore a smart check tweed ensemble and small black felt hat. The flowers were beautiful, large jardinieres of hydrangeas and bowls and vases of iris and chrysanthemums. Among the guests were Mrs. T. H. McWilliams, Mrs. WO'Callaghan, Mrs. Woodward, Mrs. W. M. Thomson, Mrs. H. R. Kemp, Mrs. Evans and Miss Joyce Evans and Miss Hay-Mackenzie.
