PASSENGER RESCUE,

AUCKLAND HARBOUR INCIDENT.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, June 8. A man whose name is believed to be J. E. Rogers was drowned in the harbour this morning. He was a passenger by a ferry which left the city for Devour port at 11 o’clock. As the ferry was rounding the wharf he was seen floating behind. Another passenger dived in, but the man sank.

The ferry was stopped and a boat was lowered. It rescued the would-be rescuer, George Taylor, but there was no sign of the other man. The Harbour Board tug also cruised in the vicinity, but without result.
