TRACK SUITS “MUDLARKS”

three favourites winners.

DIVIDENDS MUCH SMALLER.

(’Ey Wire—‘Special to News.) . Auckland, Last Night. The “mudlarks” were in their element at the conclusion of the Auck land Racing Club’s winter meet ng; to ..lav, when the going was very E ol din». Three favourites were successful and the other winners were all fairly well fancied, with the result «mt dividends were of smaller proportions than on the P1 Town S Beauty was a better f a vou £ te than Monetize for the Tarnaki Steeples, and the summing up of investors proved correct when they finished first and second. Town Beauty made a one-lioise race of it over the last mile and scored handsomely from Monetize and Absent, the only others to finish. Royal B el <,n fell when going well with a round to go, and Day Lark seemed certain to be at least third when ho fell at the last fence. Carlaris toppled over on the hill the second time.

ROYAL VISITOR JUMPS WELL. Good jumping proved a great assistance to Royal Visitor m the Orakai Hurdles, and he scored K two lengths from Paddon, who just beat Blform, an outsider, for second. High CdmmiS’ sioner fell when leading at. the fourth fence, and soon after that Royal visitor and Bjform went to the lead- They were joined at the turn by but a fine leap at the last clinched the issue for Royal Visitor, who had previously raced well ill the hunters classAppledore ran a good race for fourth, but the others were well beaten. Patutahi fell at the last fence. MANAWHENUA WELL RIDDEN. Well ridden by K. Voitre, who was having his first mount at the meeting, Manawhenua was always well placed to win the York Handicap. Silvermine and Imamint made the running and just led at the turn from Manawhenua and Sunny Sky. Manawhenua finished stoutly and prevailed from Sunny Sky, who just kept Historic out of second, The honours of the race were with Historic, who was disappointed when looking for an opening near the turn. Historic then came to the outside and made a great effort with his big weight in ' th® straight. LEADERS IN steeples fall. Paris led to the fourth fence in the Winter Steeples and then fell ’heavily, leaving Lucess in front. After that Lucess and Nukumai made most of the running with Callamart handy. Going up the hill the second time Callamart joined Nukumai in front, and they had a good lead at the first fence on the hill, -where they both toppled over. Claremore followed suit at the next fence and the issue was then left, to Lucess, Billy Boy and Copey. Billy Boy was first over the stone wall into the straight and stayed on to win from Lucess and Copey, It looked as if Callamart and Nukumai had the others beaten and they would probably have filled the dividend places but for falling. Kamehameha baulked at the last fence. HIGH PITCH STRUGGLES HOME. High Pitch was favourite for the Campbell Hurdles and he duly scored, although he gave his supporters a couple of thrills when he jumped the last two fences badly. Arch Eagle led for a mile when he ran right away from the rails and High Pitch went up m the outside to the lead. Anything with in effort left would have troubled High Pitch after he nearly fell at the second to last, fence, but lie was clear at the time and there was nothing with sufficient dash left to even get near him. Cruachan battled on gamely and beat Nassock, who was second at the turn, for second place. Luminary fell at the last fence and Advance Camp was pulled up. An inquiry was held concerning the handling of Make Up, but the explanation tendered was accepted. AJake Up was never going like a winner and chased the field home. He was walking a trifle short behind as a result of having struck a fence hard. TRACK ISUITS LORD VAL. In spite of the fact that he was badly drawn at the barrier Lord Vai scored an easy win from King Ford and Tradesman in the Visitors* Handicap. The inside horses, Werata, Huntingdon and Hampton Park were first away but Consent, King Ford, Refresher and Lord Vai went fast from the outside to be the leaders before going a furlong. Lord Vai gave nothing a chance at the finish and won easily from King Ford, who just beat Tradesman for second. Consent was fourth. Lord Vai revelled in the ground and won going away. Huntingdon was well placed to the turn but was anchored by his weight at the finish. SENESCHAL SCORES WELL.

Well ridden by Mr. K. Duncan, Seneschal led practically from end to end in the Carbine Plate. Grand Spirit and Valueless just headed him in the middle stages, but Grand Spirit was beaten before reaching the turn, where Value? less went off the course under pressure. Seneschal then asserted himselt to win easily from Protomint, who just hept Beacon Fire out of second place. Valuer less was a close fifth and might? have been very, troublesome if well ridden. Seneschal is a solid and improving horse who should not be long in showing his real worth in open company.
