ELTHAM HORTICULTURE

MEETING OF THE SOCIETY. LOSS ON YEAR’S WORKING. The annual meeting of the Eltham Horticultural Society was held on Monday, Mr. T. B. Crump presiding. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr. 0. H. Bjorngaard; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs. C. E. Rowe, R. Lewis and R. H. Gover; general committee, Messrs. T. Fountaine, R. J. Pepperell, I. J. Bridger, F. Clemow, A. Chrystal, A. H. Best, L. K. Tarrant, J. W. Major, L. Lewis, C. A. Belcher, G. H. Mann and Mesdames T. H. A. Valintine, M. McGarry, O. Manley, D. Syme, J. B. Brown, J. Valintine, 9. G. Guthrie, R. H. Gover and Miss A. Wilson. An executive was elected consisting of Messrs. Bridger, Rowe, R. Lewis, C. A. Belcher and Gover. The annual report stated that the society commenced the year with a debit balance of £25 5s Id, and this had increased to £34 17s Id. The spring show showed a profit of £7 13s, but it is rather disappointing that the summer show showed a loss of £l7 ss. The subscription was reduced from 5s to 2s 6d, and although the reduction had not produced any monetary benefits to the society, it had no doubt created more interest by the increased membership. During the year the society lost a staunch supporter in the late Mr. Robert Gibson. With regard to the spring show, the members no doubt felt pleased with the success achieved. There was not a single exhibitor in the show who did not write or personally express his or her thanks and congratulations to the society for the many considerations shown them by the stewards and executive. The balance-sheet showed receipts totalling £136 Is 6d and expenditure £145 13s 6d, leaving a loss of £9 12s, which, together with last year’s balance brought forward, made a total debit of £34 17s Id. The society’s assets totalled £62 15s. It was resolved to hold the spring show on September 28 and the summer show on January 25. OVER 100 TONS TO THE ACRE. ROOT CROPS AT MANGIMINGI.
