TROTTING AT TE AROHA

BIG FIELDS TO RACE TO-DAY.

GOOD CLASS CANDIDATES.

(Special to News.)

There is promise of splendid trotting contests at'Te Aroha to-day, and the two main items, the Trotting Club Handicap and the Farewell Handicap, have drawn horses of excellent calibre. W’hile Thames - winners are well in the limelight, there are several fresh competitors who will make the issue confusing. Southerners expect Bracken to show up well in both events, while in the big race Arabond, the Hawera dual winner, is fancied, and Brent Zolock will be one of the dangerous division in the sprint. The other races have filled well and Thames winners and place-getters should again be prominent. Appended is a brief review of the card by an Auckland special correspondent: —

WAITOA HANDICAP, of £9O; limit 3 42. One mile and a half.'—Balgownie, Francis Lincoln, Guid Hairet, Jester, Lady Amanda, Lislea, Netherton, Our Franz, Pedlar, Star Pronto, Smooger, Triquest, Trevor Dillon limit, Fisher, Pukemiro 12yds bhd. On Thames form Guid Haust is the pick of the limit lot, but Trevor Dillon may be improved since New Plymouth. Pukemiro and Fisher are well placed, but the latter is inclined to do his chance in at the start. Favourites may be Pukemiro, Guid Hairst, Trevor Dillon.

ELSTOW HANDICAP, of £9O; limit 3fio. One mile and a half.—lndolent, Kohewah, Manna’s Son, Miss Braeside, Mattie Herbilwyn, Nebraska, Pearl Parrish, Rosalie’s Triumph, Win Huou limit, Bingen Bell 12yds bhd, Summertime, Wiriwhata 36yds, Amy Etawah 72yds. Mattie Herbilwyn and Win Huon should race well, and a recent beginning would see the former win. Manna’s gon and Miss Brae-side are possibilities, and Bingen Bell Idoks the best of the others. The order may be Mattie Herbilwyn, Win Huon, Miss Braeside.

MAN AWARD HANDICAP, of £105; liiriit 3.38. One mile and a half.—Free Logan, Francis Lincoln, Great Vanity, Judy Thorpe, Jester, Star Pronto, Triquest limit, Pegaway 12yds bhd, Eleawah, Worthy Cause 24yds, Gumdigger 48yds. Free Logan holds sway from the end, and if the erratic customer, hops out it will be all over. Jester will go well, but the dangerous one is Pegaway, while Eleawah and Worthy Cause are smart pacers, Most support may be for Free Logan, Pegaway, Eleawah.

TE AROHA TROTTING CLUB HANDICAP, of £275; limit 4.38. Two miles. —Bracken, High Sea, Little Guy, Lady Yvonne, Mr. Penalty, Sister Rose limit, Brent Zolock, Bingen Crest, Explosion, Glandore, Our Peter, Sandown 12yds bhd, Arabond, First Flight 24yds, Dan Direct, Great Parrish, Kewpie’s Guy, Kewpie’s Triumph, Real Girl 48yds, Anon 60yds. \ ' This is a remarkably strong field and ■ the issue is very open. Mr. Penalty should do better than at Thames, and Bracken will be troublesome. Our Peter was - unlucky last Saturday and may account for the majority. Arabond has winning Hawera form and Bingen Crest, Explosion and Brent Zolock are to be respected.' First Flight, Great Parrish and Kewpie’s Triumph are high grade pacers, and an a fine pool the fancies ' may. be—

MR. PENALTY. BRACKEN OUR PETER

HOT SPRINGS HANDICAP, of £105; limit 2.22—0ne mile.—Alexis, Cogent, Free .Logan,' Great Vanity, Lady Linda, Marosa, Native Berry, Realty, Rolfe Audubon limit, Bonny Drift, Nathaniel 24yds bhd, Astral 36yds, Princess Thea 60yds. Here again Free Logan reads well in the front, and his most dangerous rivals may be Marosa and Alexis. Bonny Drift is a smart saddle mare, while Nathaniel and Astral raced well last week-end. .If Free Logan is missing the order may be Astral, . Bonny Drift, JSathaniel. 1

WAIHOU HANDICAP,, of £110; limit 3.45. One mile and a half.—Kohewah, Mattie Herbilwyn, Miss Braeside, Nebraska, Tiwha limit, Amy Etawah 12yds bhd, Moko Bells 36yds, Hardy Grattan, Laurier 48yds, Black Magic, El Merit 60yds, Zanzibar 72yds, Royal Triumph 180yds. Tiwha reads best of the limit lot, but Mattie-Herbilwyn, if sh© runs earlier, may be troublesome. Amy Etawah is consistent, and Moko Bells, Hardy Grattan, El Merit and Zanzibar have good prospects. The best backed may be El Merit, Tiwha, Amy Etawah.

RUAKAWA HANDICAP, of £105; limit 2.57. One mile and a quarter. — Gumdigger, Realty, Worthy Cause limit, Bonny 'Drift, Great Fame, Mild Derby, Myrtlene, Nathaniel 12yds bhd, Astral 24yds, Princess Thea 60yds. The form horses here are Worthy Cause, Bonny Drift, Great Fame, Mild Derby, Myrtlene, Nathaniel, Astral and Princess Thea, and in spite of her big handicap the last-named should run well. The favoui’ites may be Myrtlene, Princess Thea, Mild Derby. FAREWELL HANDICAP, of £130; limit 2.50. One mile and a quarter.— Bracken, Direct Morning, High Sea, Little Guy, Mr. Penalty, Rangihau, Bister Rose limit, Birigen Crest, Brent Zolock, Dad’s Hope, Glandore, Our Peter, Sandown 12yds bhd, First Flight 24yds, Anon, Real Girl 36yds, Triumph 48yds. This is a facer for punters. Direct Morning, Sister Rose and Rangihau will go well off the end, while close to them are good sprinters in Bracken, Bingen Crest, Brent Zolock, Dad’s Hope, Sandown, Our Peter and First Flight. In a good pool the best backed may be First Flight, Bracken, Brent Zolock.
