Mns. Maud Elizabeth Birchall was ordained a deaconess in the Christchurch Cathedral on Sunday by Bishop WestWateon. She left Oamaru to work under the Rev. R. de Lambert in the parish of St. James, R’iccarton, and is now to follow her ministry in the parish of Tuahiwi.

A very pleasant evening was spent at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. G. Cosbrook in honour of the birthday of her son, Mr. Kenneth Cosbrook. Dancing was enjoyed, the music being supplied by Mr. D. Burr. Songs were sung by Mr. C. Haskill and Mr. B. Rattley. Supper was served in the dining room, which was decorated with yelllow daisies and bronze chrysanthemums. Among those present were Mesdames G. Cosbrook, Burr, Frost, Persons, Waite, Misses M. Pycroft, J. Pycroft, Nancy Frost, Betty Person, Miss A. Beard and K. Riley.

Mrs. D. le Cren Morgan, New Plymouth, and Mrs. J. R. Penn, Inglewood, will leave this morning by motor for Napier.

Mrs. F. W. Gayton was hostess at an enjoyable card evening last Saturday in honour of Mrs. C. Steffensen, who leaves New Plymouth to-day on a trip to Sydney and Melbourne.

Mesdames Campbell and T. C. List will be hostesses at the Victoria League floral tea next Friday. Mrs. Barak will give B demonstration, and there will be an exhibition of hand-woven articles. Members will have the opportunity of weaving themselves.

Miss Norah. Thomson has returned from visits to Wellington and Kaponga.
