NEW PLYMOUTH HARRIERS
RUN FROM MOTUROA SCHOOL. Thirty-five members of the New Plymouth Harrier Club met at the Moturoa Stehool for the weekly run on Saturday afternoon. Under the control of Mr. R. Stewart one pack of about 18 set off in the direction of the breakwater and up the hill past Paritutu, down to the beach and along to a point about half a mile further. The pacemakers, J. Palmer and J. Cooper, then led the pack inland towards Omata. Here the going was very slow to the leaoers losing the track in the lupins. Finally the boys got on to open country again and set off to reach a point on the Main South Road just below the church. From here the pack set off at a steady pace for home, which was reached after a run of about four and a-half miles. Gome minutes later the second pack, under Mr. C. Robertson, set off to follow the others, but decided first to run down the Ngamotu beach and catch ■a glimpse of the sports. Che pacemakers of this pack, F. Cooper and F. Morine, then picked up th. course ■taken by tho leading pack. A few of the boys decided to have a swim when the beach behind Paritutu was reached, and found it very good as the running had been hot, there being bright sunshine and no wind. When the South Road was reached the pack split up, one section going down the road just behind the leading pack and the other across country to Barrett Road and then home after a very good run. In the first pack there were one or two who persisted in keeping in front of the pacemakers. This made it harder for those not quite as fit as the others, and is against the rules of the club. Rule books have been printed and are obtainable from the secretary, and all the boys have been requested to make themselves conversant with the rules. Next week the members will meet at 2 p.m. ait the Vogeltown School for the weekly run.
