MASTERTON RACES TO-DAY
GOOD FIELD TO CONTEST CUP. TARANAKI HORSES ENGAGED. ; - (By “Hurry On.”) The prospects for* the opening of the Masterton Racing Clubs autumn meetin* to-day look very bright as there are some good horses engaged, and where good horses are the public will always follow.
Most of these have very little public form io recommend them, but 1 hornproof, Clanger and Sailing have shown promise at times.
Beridon 8 a Joie de Vai’s weight here is 0.0 and not 8.5, as originally published, nevertheless the mare will go well. _ lhe bracketed pair, Appledore and Revision, and Lyrical will probably do best among the others;
Make-Up is-decidedly useful in this class of event and if he goes to the post he should be favourite. In Ins absence Full Mark and Blade Mint may be in demand. ,
This is a great field, well worthy of the valuable gold cup that goes to the owner of the winner. Arikira- is a wonderfully improved-sort this season and, despite his 9.9, he is going to be one of the favourites; Grand Jury has been running very consistently, but it is doubtful whether he can concede weight to a good three-year-old like. Gibraltar, whose form at Avondale was impressive. Tn addition Gibraltar will be coupled with Easter Time, who has improved a lot of late. Rational 11. is a much improved horse, and as he has been nominated for the Awapuni Gold Cup next week his-connections must have a high opinion of "him. Shrewd always goes a good race, Jayson is an improving sort, Esteem can gallop when in the mood and so can Statuary, but Constant Sun should hold them safe as he has the makings of' a really good handicapper. In a good betting race the Graham bracket, Gibraltar and Easter Time, will probably be better supported than Constant Sun and Arikira.
There appears some doubt as to whether the Corry team will be present, and therefore Appledore and Revision may be missing. In their absence Tavora, who won at Opunake, Gold Sand and Flower should come in for solid support.
class' horse is always dangerous. Orapai is in great order and on his running at Avondale will probably be favourite. Moa Bird has a handy weight, but seems to have gone off a little. Imperial Fame keeps on winning and was second on Saturday to the smasher Tai Ao. Miladi would have a great chance, but may not be there. The public will most likely support Orapai, Imperial Fame and Historic.
Several of these have fair form. Alpinist won at Dannevirke, False Scent and Kinross were placed at Hastings,. and Populace won at her last start. . Possibly Alpinist, Populace and Kinross may do’ best.
