HOCKEY FOR LADIES
AFFAIRS OF ASSOCIATION. (ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Taranaki Ladies’ Hockey Association was held *t Stratford yesterday, Mr. H. C. Johnson presiding over a large number of representatives from Stratford, Stratford Technical High School, Auroa, Hawera, Eltham, Inglewood, Waitara, Oco and Pihama clubs. The report stated that the number of affiliated clubs had been well maintained and the standard of play had been kept well up to that of previous years. The competition had been played in north and south divisions, Eltham having won .the north and Pihama the south. Pihama had won the final. An Increased number of teams had competed in the June 3 tournament, which had been won by Eltham. Pihama had won the Kowhai Shield tournament at Inglewood. The coming year would be one of financial stress and with the revival of several clubs the association would have to consider all matters carefully with a view to reducing costs to play ei s to a minimum. Officers elected were: Patron, Mr. Catran; president, Mr. H. C. Johnson; vicepresidents, Mr. Gower and Miss Woolliams; delegate to New Zealand Association, Mr. R. Freetby; secretary, Miss M. Youn"- management committe, Messrs. Evetts,’ Grant and Priest, Misses Woolliams and Clare. The management committee was authorised to fix the date for the opening of the season and to arrange the nxtures* • The Eltham club was granted permission to hold the annual seven-a-side tournament on May 19Permission to hold the annual men s and ladies* tournament at Hawera, on June 3 was. granted, the organising committee from the ladies’ association to co-operate with representatives from the men’s association being Miss M oolliams.
