WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Norfolk Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday evening, when despite the inclement weather over 20 members attended. The president, Mrs. W. Brown, in presenting the annual report congratulated' members on a very successful year both socially and financially. The monthly meetings had been well attended, and thanks were due to those who had given lectures and demonstrations. The dancing and elocution lessons arranged with Mr. Gowan for the children had been most successful, as also was the swimming and life-saving instruction, given by Miss E. Dowling. The year had ended with a credit balance of over £5. The election of officers resultec: President, Mrs. W. Brown; vice-presidents, Mrs. Porter and Mrs. W. Kaye; hon. secretary, Miss M. Corney; assistant secretary, Mrs. E. Fischer; treasurer, Mrs. 'F. Voitrekovsky; committee, Mesdames J. Burgess, L. Brown, W. Bryne, W. Ward, A. Dodunski and Mrs. W. Whitaker; delegates to federation meeting, Mrs- Li.' Brown and Mrs. Adnams. It was resolved that an institute library be inaugurated, and Mrs. L. Brown and Mrs. H. Egarr were appointed to make preliminary arrangements. A Scottish evening is to be held at an early date, and the final arrangements were left to the executive.
Several new members were elected. At the conclusion of the meeting Mrs. W. Ward gave an instructive demonstration on rug-making. The potato growing competition was won by Mrs. W. Byrne with 181 b. of potatoes, and other competitions were won by Mesdames D. O’Sullivan, Adnam and H. Egarr. Hostesses for the evening were Mesdames L. Brown, W. Byrne and E. Fischer. BASKETBALL CLUB. A garden party was held at the residence of Mrs. W. Brown last Thursday afternoon, when members of the Norfolk Old Girls’ Basketball Club held their annual meeting. Mrs. L. Brown, president, in presenting the annual report, congratulated members on a very successful year. Although they had not
secured championship honours they had played all their matches in a true sportsmanlike manner, which she considered was the proper spirit to adopt. The balance-sheet disclosed a substantial credit balance. The election of officers resulted: President, Mrs. L. Brown; vice-president, Miss Joan Dombroski; hon. secretary, Mrs. W. Brown; coach, Mrs. L. Brown; captain, Miss Joan Dombroski; vice-captain, Miss Maida Corney; delegates to association meeting, Misses Joan Dombroski and E. Reeve; delegates to monthly meeting of association, Misses Ona Laurence and Nyla Walker. 'The following new members were elected: Misses Beatrice Dombroski, Mavis Reeve, Nyla Walker, Ona Laurence and Nita Porter.
