FRUITS OF HARVEST
SALVATION ARMY FESTIVAL. Contrary to expectations, more fruit, vegetables and produce were given for the display on the occasion of the Salvation Army harvest festival this year than in previous years and the citadel on Monday night presented a spectacle indicating that all is well with Nature in her autumn “season of mists and mellow fruitfulness” despite the disruptions and depressions of the economic life. The Citadel was crowded and the festival from every point of view was reported to have been successful, under the presidency of the Rev. Clarence Eaton. A programme of vocal and instrumental items was arranged and given by members of the Whiteley Memorial Church Choir severally and jointly under the conductorship of Mr. R. L. Cooper. The items given were: Anthem, Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem; song, Miss D. Burgess; recitation, Mrs. Dearnley; part song, Londonderry Air; song, Miss F. Sutherland; duet, Misses D. Burgess and Q. Ramshaw; anthem, Holy Art Thou; song, Mrs. Berg; violin duet, Jack Cooper and John Reed; part songs, (a) Silmt Night, (b) Hail to the Chief; song, Miss Q. Ramshaw; recitation, Mrs. Dearnley; anthem, All Thy Works Shall Bless Thee; song, Mrs. Berg; song, Miss Sutherland; part song, Land of Hope and Glory. A successful auction of the produce concluded the festival.
