Stratford yesterday reversed the prcced- . ure by throwing the onus of preparation upon the country and asking the towns- , people to fill the role of visitors. There was plenty of novelty. Stalls were distributed among representatives of the country districts surrounding Stratford. The tulip garden was conducted by Huinga ladies (Mrs. J. E. Jamieson and Misses A., and 0. Jamieson), the produce stall by Denbigh Road (Mesdames C. Langlands and C. Carroll with Misses Yandle and Irving), the sweet stall by Gordon Road and Toko ‘ (Mesdames M. Urquhart, R. G. Grierson and A J. Lees, Misses J. Ferguson and Huston)) the cake stall by Ngaere and Toko (Mesdames J. Bonner, J. Aitken, T. C. Murray ai.%. Miss C. Milne), the.afternoon tea department by Wharehuia (Mesdames E. Wheller, A. Forbes, E. Jago, E. Widmer, V. Hosking, E. H. Newland and J. D. Mackay, Misses K. Wellington, M. and B. Widmer, R. Newland and G. Wihnshurst), the plant and flower stall by Stratford- (Mesdames P. Thomson,’ J. Savage and A. Lilley), the work stall by Mrs. W. J. Polson and Mrs. Milne, the meat stall by Mr. M. T. Phillips and Mrs. Wiggins. Games and competitions were carried on throughout the afternoon. The hoop-la game was in charge of Mrs. J. C. Allen (Stratford),. the cigarette packet game Mrs. R. Anderson (Gordon Road) and shies Mr. T. T. Murray (Toko). Mrs. H. T. Cooper (Stratford) was in charge of the baby show and had Sister Field and Miss Barkley as judges. Results.of the baby show are: Class 1: Marie Johnson. Class 2: John Binnie. Class 3: Jean Boyles.’ Class 4: Shona McDowell, and Ronald Boyles. . The cake for the croquet competition was won by Mrs. H. T. Cooper. GENERAL ITEMS. The Avon Bowling Club intended to hold a pairs, competition yesterday but 40 bowlers attended and the competition had. to be altered to a full rink one, the winning rink being Rudkin, Williams, McCready'and Hardy-Jones. A class of instruction for teachers of the district was held at the Eltham school yesterday, when Mr'. Haughton explained the principles of Dr. Renfrew White’s system of physical training. Dr. White, one of the leading medical men of Dunedin, has devoted much time to the study of the physical welfare of children, and in 1928 a class was established for students at the Dunedin Training College who desired to specialise in physical training under his supervision. Mr. Haughton is one of these students. Yesterday he explained very fully the exercises as outlined in Dr. White’s book on the subject. Mrs. W. Mitchell won a nail-driving competition at the Eltham-Takou dog trials yesterday. Mrs. H. Belcher secured second place. About 60 cars were parked around the dog trial grounds at Mangamingi yesterday and a service officer of the South Taranaki Automobile Association was in attendance to render assistance to motorists. Messrs. Cleland Bros., Stratford, received from Feilding- on Wednesday a consignment of six one-shear stud Rom- ’• ney rams from the studs of Messrs. E E. Short, Shannon Bros., F. S. Johnson and W. G. Small. One of the rams gained second prize at the Palmerston North and Feilding show against strong competition ADVERTISERS’ ANNOUNCEMENTS. The Egmont sheep dog trials will be held at Taiporohenui, Hawera, on March 15 and 16. Entries close to-morrow night. Mr. M. McDonald, land agent, Stratford, has for disposal the lease of a dairy farm at £2 5s an acre. The property will carry 50 dairy cows and is fav- ■ ourably situated.
