OKOKE NOTES

DOG TRIAL CLUB’S MEETING.

SUCCESS OF FIRST YEAR.

The first annual meeting of the Okoke j Dog Trial Club was held in the Okoke j Hall on Saturday night, Mr. Wyn. Har- j graves presiding over a good attend.ance. _ In presenting the first annual report of the club, the president took the 1 opportunity of. thanking the members and all others who assisted the club at its inaugural meetiug- The opening had been a success, he stated, and although they had common ed in the depth of a depression he felt sure that, provided they proceeded cautiously, 1 they would have one of the strongest clubs in Taranaki. In tho programme for the forthcoming trials Mr. Hargraves advocated a utility class, a class that would suit a good, all-round dog. A dog with plenty of noise would be encouraged, for. in this class he would have to hunt his sheep out a certain distance, then head and pull to ring or yard. Of course, they had to recognise that different localities required different types of dogs, but he ventured to say that the dog most required was the good all-rounder, a dog with plenty of noise if required, one that would hunt and head if wanted to. This was the type of dog to be found on most small mixed farms, and one, he contended, to be encouraged. With the dates at the club’s disposal Mr. Hargraves suggested holdinga two-day trial, to include if possible a long head and ring, a short head, drive and yard event, a huntaway class, and the utility class. He pointed out the necessity of urging members to visit other trials. If it were good enough tor members of other clubs to visit the local event, it was up to the Okoke members

to return the compliment. In conclusion Mr. Hargraves thanked the members for their assistance durin«- the year, and expressed. the club s thanks to donors of trophies and to Mr. T. Wright for granting them, the use of his ground and sheep. Thanks due to the ladies and their helpers and to the Press. The following officers were elected tor the ensuing year; Patron, Mr. W. J.
