WELLINGTON HOTEL BURGLED

NOTES STOLEN FROM SAFE. THEFT COMMITTED IN HURRY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Cash and notes to the value of £lO7 were stolen from a safe in the Post Office Hotel, Wellington, some time between midnight and 6.30 a.m. to-day. Indications point to burglary committed in somewhat of a hurry, and the thief or thieves failed to take a further £63 in notes wnich was lying in a steel drawer in the safe. 1 In the opinion of the proprietor of the hotel, Mr. S. J- Whiteford, the thief was in the building before closing time at 6 o’clock, when the front door was closed. Mr. Whiteford considers the thief secreted himself upstairs and lay in wait for the suitable opportunity to gain possession of the keys, which Mrs. Whiteford kept under her pillow.
