SECOND DAY AT WANGANUI

JACKSON STAKES TO-DAY LADY QUEX HAS GREAT CHANCE. ARIKIRA AND VIEW HALLOO. (By “Hurry On.”) The Wanganui Jockey Club’s meeting will conclude to-day, ‘.when, the chief event on the programme is the Jackson Stakes, for which there are seven acceptors. It gives every promise of being a great contest. Most of the other events ’ have filled well and. the public can look forward to another good day’s racing. Proceedings commence with the / FORDELL HURDLES. Of .100 sovs. One mile and 4J furlongs. Conjurer n. 11 6 Just an Idea 9 8 Royal Acre 11 1 Callapat » 7 Tunbridge 3 13 Conjuror 11. won with such ease on Thursday that he is sure to go out. an odds on'chance. Royal Acre may improve on his first day’s showing, and the same applies to Just an Idea. Tunbridge ’‘went a bad race, but may do better this time. Callapat will be there most of the way. The places will probably be filled by . CONJUROR IL ROYAL ACRE . • ' CALLAPAT.

This is the star event of the day. Karapoti’s form has not been particularly convincing this season, but he scored a brilliant victory in the Newmarket Handicap at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day, and a repetition of this form would make him dangerous. Cadland has been lumping big weights with distinction in the handicap events of » late and will be coupled with Laughing Prince, who, despite his failure at New Plymouth last week, isr a great horse, on the Wanganui course. Lady Quex, who will.be ridden by H. Gray, has gone the right way since her brilliant win on Saturday last and will be fit and ready to test the best of. them. Hunting Cry’s failure, on Thursday was a facer to his admirers, but he was not very artistically handled and will ■, ■. probably do better to-day. Tea Trader is regarded as an unlikely starter, but if he arrives he will have a great -chance. The turning course will suit Head Lady, and with her brilliance out of-the barrier she is sure to lead the field a merry . dance for the greater part of the journey. Practically every runner will coma in for solid support, but the actual favourites may he LADY QUEX . The bracketed LAUGHING PRINCE and CADLAND i ' 'j HEAD LADY. ' . A

Hampden has a big weight here, though he won well on Thursday. Haulbowline can muster up a lot of pace over this distance, and this will probably prove the undoing of Furlong. Paioneone would have to improve a lot on his first day a showing, but Miss Cavendish will have plenty of friends. Her win last week was a good effort and she should, strip a fitter filly to-day. „ Both Dakar and Headmaster showed a lot of pace the first' day. However, the public will probably go for . ' MISS CAVENDISH . . HAMPDEN (if started) HAULBOWLINE. >

Invictus is a good sort of hack and on the first day’s running would appear to hold Manawatu and Bon Eve safe. Tigerism may have been improved by the race, but the top weight should hold him safe. Davidstock, though he has all the weight that he is entitled to, will take a lot of beating, for he won well on Thursday. Auctioneer can be passed over and Pass On’s chance is only an outside one, but Goldzone s second to Attentive at New Plymouth was a good effort. A trio that should be prominent at the finish are DAVIDSTO.CK INVICTUS GOLDZONE., ’ ■'' > ”

On Egmont form Arikira has only to he produced fit and well to account for Shrewd and Monalof, ’but they are not the only ones he has to meet. Both King Colossus and High Falutin’ were rroin'’’ very well when the interference occurred in the back stretch on Thursday and they will go better to-day. Joie de Vai may be dangerous and so mav Habit, but Grand Jury would need to improve a lot to have a chance with Shrewd. Calamine on her New Plymouth form has an undeniable chance. In a good- pool the best supported may, be ' arikira SHREWD CALAMINE. '•

1,3 Crown- '■ HD _ With no Haulbowline to cart him along The Tiger will probably do better here. Hampden is engaged earlier m the day, but Barbacan has only io the great finishing effort , that she displayed In Thursday to be very La Crown will be with them all the.way. Jadarino should account for Goy and Sea Scout. Indications point to THE TIGER BARBACAN LA CROWN.

Pomp ® 1 t View Halloo won with such ease op Thursday that the rise in weight shoW not trouble him here, and he is better class than the only newcomer, Habit. Pomp and Juggle may be improved by the first day’s racing, but form pwnts strongly to VIEW HALLOO JUGGLE.
